Don’t just take our word for it. We encourage you to do a deep research on any company you consider. Check their Yelp reviews and find out what’s really going on. Often times, you will find that some of the reviews tell a scary story. You will find reviews detailing poor quality, terrible customer service and even loss of media. While we certainly are no perfect, as a small fraction of our reviews may suggest, for the most part even our bad reviews are mostly about miscommunication. Room for improvement? Absolutely! Will we ever lose or mishandle you media or provide sub-par service? Never!
When you consider a company to transfer and preserve your precious memories, you want to ask yourself whether they provide a personalized service or are they situated far away in some unknown out-of-state remote location? Are they in the mass-production style of business, transferring videos by the hundreds by staff that has never met you in person and never will? Can you contact the company direct or do you send off your memories through a big box retailer where you shop for food items, cleaning supplies and diapers? Will the company offer you high-quality files in HD from your videotape and film assets or will they simply trade one legacy format (tape, film etc) for another (DVD or standard definition files)? Why would anyone even want to offer you that? Do they try and push you in subscription based cloud storage instead of providing you with tangible media you can own, like discs and drive? So yes, before you choose which company you want to hire, we strongly encourage you to ask yourself these questions, because as we said, you will most likely only transfer your tapes, film, slides and audio tapes once. 20, 30, 40, 50 and more, years of your family history needs to be preserved, for yourself and future generations. If we didn’t bore you to death at this point, we feel it is only fair that you know something about us. Advanced Media, formerly Advanced Video, has been in business since 1984, and by some accounts far longer. The company has a bit of history here in Hollywood, with some claiming it has been around since the early 20s and has been one of the first media transfer companies to exist. While we cannot validate those claims (perhaps one day we will), we, a group of motion picture & TV post-production professionals and executives, have decided to buy the company in 2007 and add it to our portfolio. Since then, we have transferred and preserved video, film, audio and slides assets for tens of thousands of individual customers, as well as government agencies, such as the FBI, many universities, public libraries, large nationwide companies and many celebrities (not giving out names, sorry, but we’ll just say that you’ve seen many of them in your favorite films and TV shows). We enjoy what we do and have a sense of pride in the fact that we have enabled, and continue to enable, so many of you to re-experience your memories, your history, the graduation, the newborn, the wedding, the mother-in-law, the trip to the Bahamas, your short films, the goofy faces, the happy moments, the sad moments and all that make you to the unique person you are and the unique family you are part of. “I needed to convert a few 8mm tapes to DVD. I tried going to Target and then CVS in Hollywood, but neither offer that service any more (I was told it was partly due to Kodak going out of business). I found Advanced Media through Yelp and since I work nearby, I stopped in. The whole experience from start to finish was great. I dealt with 3 different staff members by phone and in person and each one was polite, professional and very helpful.
